SEMINAR 2025

with Kurt Browning, Elvis Stojko and Gladys Orozco

We are so pleased to welcome these 3 incredible talents to our club. Each of our guests brings with them a unique set of skills, offering skaters a very well-rounded skating education experience.

Kurt Browning is a local boy, born in here in Rocky Mountain House and raised in Caroline. He is a four-time Canadian figure skating champion and four-time World Champion. He represented Canada in three Winter Olympics, 1988 (finishing 8th overall), 1992 (6th) and 1994 (5th), and was given the privilege of carrying the Canadian flag during the opening ceremonies of the 1994 games in Lillehammer, Norway. Browning's other achievements are numerous, including three Canadian Professional Championships and three World Professional Championships. On March 25, 1988 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Browning landed the first quadruple jump ever in competition. This accomplishment is listed in the Guinness Book of Records. Browning is also known for his footwork.

Elvis Stojko is one of Canada’s most successful male figure skaters, having won back-to-back Olympic silver medals at Lillehammer 1994 and Nagano 1998 to go with his three world titles (1994, 1995, 1997) and seven national titles (1994, 1996-2000, 2002). Known for his jumping prowess, Stojko put his name in the history books at the 1991 World Championships in Munich when he became the first figure skater to ever land a quadruple jump in combination in competition, performing a quad toe loop-double toe loop in his free skate. The next year, he made his Olympic debut at Albertville 1992 and won his first world championship medal in Oakland, sharing the podium with silver medallist teammate Kurt Browning. In 1993, he and Browning took over the top two steps of the world championship podium in Prague, with Stojko capturing the silver medal.

Gladys Orozco is a show skater, choreographer, and coach. At 12 years old she was the youngest competitor on the Mexican National Team. She represented Mexico for 10 years on the international competitive circuit and was selected to compete in the 2002 World Figure Skating Championships in Nagano, Japan. She was also a principal performer with Disney On Ice and other global performing companies, performing all over the world.

What can you expect from the seminar?

While the exact itinerary won't be set until after registration is closed, you can expect to see at least 2 on-ice sessions per day, as well as off-ice training. Elvis focuses on on-ice spins, jumps and body awareness, Kurt does on-ice skating skills and performance, Gladys offers the off-ice training/dancing, as well as on-ice skating skills and movement with music.

There will be opportunities for autographs and photos as well.
